Frequently asked Questions

What is a sliding scale?

A sliding scale in a private practice for counseling refers to a flexible fee structure where the cost of therapy sessions adjusts based on the client's income or financial situation. This allows individuals with lower incomes to access counseling services at a reduced rate, making mental health care more accessible and affordable.

How long are counseling sessions?

Each session is at least 53 minutes long. If you would like longer or shorter sessions we can have conversation about your needs.

How frequently should I schedule counseling sessions?

For most individuals, scheduling weekly counseling sessions is recommended initially to establish a consistent therapeutic relationship and momentum. However, the frequency of sessions can vary depending on individual needs, goals, and the nature of the issues being addressed. We will work collaboratively to determine the most appropriate session frequency based on your unique circumstances and progress in therapy.

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

If you're feeling overwhelmed, experiencing emotional distress, or facing challenges that seem too big, therapy might be beneficial. It offers a supportive environment to explore your thoughts and feelings, develop coping strategies, and improve your overall well-being. If you're unsure, I offer an initial consultation to discuss your specific circumstances and how therapy could assist you.

What can expect during a counseling session?

You can expect a genuine, culturally sensitive, LGBTQ+ allied, and non-judgmental atmosphere for you to work through any issues that you are currently facing. Your information and counseling sessions will be kept confidential. As your therapist, I will occasionally push you out of your comfort zone and challenge you to help facilitate growth.

Do you accept insurance, and if so, which providers?

As of now, I currently accept Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, Evernorth, and Optum. Therapy should be accessible to all, so I also offer a limited number of lower rates (sliding scale) based on availability for those who are private pay.
